Random question, I know. I’ve started life coaching as I am feeling a bit unsure of where I am going and where I want to go. Instead of wallowing in self doubt I decided to do something about it and reach out to a coaching group. My first session was yesterday and the coach said a story about working out how much of the day he was himself. He worked it out as a %.
You have 24 hours, take away 8 hours for sleeping which leaves you with 16 hours, now ask yourself how many of those hours are you truly you. For example, I work from 9-17:30 and am a different person to who I am outside of work so I need to take off that time. You take away from those 16 hours every hour and minute you do not feel yourself, be honest, then with the remaining number work out the percentage.
I did this today and my % is way too low. It’s shocked me but has also made me think about my prioritise and whether I’m focusing on the wrong things and letting them impact on my %. It’s left me with a lot to consider but at the forefront is the need to work out my values and whether they are in the correct order, I’m pretty sure they’re not.
A positive % I do want to focus on is 1%, being 1% better. It is a mindset that Chris Nickic speaks about and lives by. He has accomplished incredible things and is still pushing himself everyday to be 1% better. So that’s where you’ll find me over the next week trying to be 1% better than yesterday, starting with listing my current priorities and values now and how I want them to be. It’s a small step but those small steps can lead to the biggest changes.
