Motivation…Why?

We all do it, start the to do list, the major goal, the body transformation… the list could go on. Some people have this weird personality trait where they can stick to these goals and achieve them in the time they’ve set themselves. I used to be pretty good like that but now my fuel for completing these tasks seems to have gone. I can make a number of excuses but they’re just that, excuses.

Life’s too busy! I just don’t feel like it! Maybe tomorrow! We all know them, chances are the majority of us have used them and somehow such weak excuses work. I’m sure there is a deeper reason why we do not achieve our goals. It may be we have set too bigger end goals in a too little time frame thus making them unachievable. On a subconscious level, it could be we don’t actually want to achieve that goal.

I keep reading about what’s your ‘why’ for wanting to do this journey and achieve that goal, if you know you’re why you’ll get to your goal. It could be ‘I want to be fitter to play with my children’ or ‘I want to qualify in this course to improve my employability’. There is truth in finding your ‘Why’ to help give you motivation however to find your why I really believe you need to deeply investigate your end goal. If your Why is as surface level as your end goal then surely your motivation will be easily swayed.

One of the big things about the journey and the end goal you need to ask yourself is Who are you achieving this for? Is it for you or, are you trying to become an image of yourself that you have created through social media, TV, parents or friends expectation?

Then ask yourself will your end goal make you happy, give you a deeper happiness? Can you see this end goal taking you places, helping you to achieve more goals that will add joy to your life. If the answer is no, maybe it’s time to evaluate your goals.

Once you have been through this process of breaking down your end goal and realising what you want to achieve then make a plan. Break the plan down week by week, each week bringing you one step closer Be realistic with your time, it’s not going to happen overnight. Most of all be kind to yourself.

Well this is what I’m going to try anyway, I’ll update you soon.
