Sober Sips…

It’s nearly over but we have two more nights of sober October left. I decided to do it to challenge myself but soon got bored of the same zero alcohol drinks. If you need some inspiration for some sober sips here a few of the mocktails I have enjoyed drinking. My favourite by far is the elderflower spritz, light and refreshing it’s so easy to drink!

Elderflower Spritz
Sweet and fresh!

Ingredients – Elderflower cordial, tonic water, cucumber, fresh mint

Method (Makes one)

Slice 4 thin slices of cucumber place in a tall glass
Slap a small bunch of mint between your hands then place in glass
Fill glass 2/3 with ice
Add 1 part cordial to 8 parts tonic. For a less sweeter drink add more tonic.
Stir and enjoy!

Nojito

Grapefruit Nojito
Tart and refreshing!

Ingredients – Pink grapefruit, caster sugar, fresh mint, soda water

Method (makes one)

Cut away ¼ of the grapefruit and put to one side. Juice the remaining grapefruit and pour into bottom a highball (check) glass.
Place 1.5tsp sugar into the grapefruit juice. I like it sour but if you’re a sweeter tooth add more sugar. Take a small taste to check before adding sugar. Stir a few times to dissolve sugar.
Slap a small sprig of mint between your hands and place in the glass along with a double shot  of soda water. Give a gentle stir.
Slice the remaining grapefruit and place in the glass with another slapped mint. Fill the glass with ice and stir with straw. Taste, if needed add more soda water.
Enjoy!

Pomegranate Cosmo
Small but mighty!

Ingredients – Pomegranate seeds (optional), orange, pomegranate juice (carton), limes

Method (Makes one)
Juice orange and place in shaker along with 75ml pomegranate and juice of one lime. Add a handful of ice. Shake!
Pour into martini glass (I didn’t have one). Add a twisted rind of either orange or lime or add pomegranate seeds.
If you like it sweeter you can add a tsp of sugar to the lime juice stir to dissolve and add to shaker. You can also make this a tall drink with soda water or lemonade.
Enjoy!
