Now Is The Time…

We keep hearing that these are unprecedented times; on the news, in work emails, on calls and in the home and it’s true, these are unprecedented times. In my lifetime and in my parents’ lifetime there has been nothing like this.

I can imagine the scene was the same for most households in the United Kingdom when Boris Johnson made the announcement on the 23rd March 2020 at 20:30. ‘Stay at home.’ As people sat watching the TV he told us to only leave for essential travel, (essential workers going to work), where possible work from home, exercise once a day, parks will be patrolled to monitor social gatherings, no more than 2 members of a household out together, stay 6ft apart and most importantly stay at home. If we don’t follow these rules there will be fines. The world is living the surreal movies we have watched in the past and for many of us we are scared.

However, these unprecedented times are also giving us opportunities. Hopefully we will never be in a situation like this again but whilst we are in it we should take advantage of the time we have been given. Those plans you have never put into action, now’s the time. That life changing book you’ve always wanted to read, the picture you didn’t finish painting, the fitness plan you never completed, the blog you haven’t started and that novel you haven’t finished writing, now is the time.

Personally, I am going to use this time to increase my fitness (#LeanInLockdown) in preparation for the Two Moors Way that I will (hopefully) complete in June. A bonus would be to get the ab for my birthday in May, just one, let’s not be greedy. I also have a pile of books that I never get around to reading, no excuses now!

For those who want to get a new fitness routine or maintain their current one there are so many opportunities out there. Chris Hemsworth’s Centr app is currently on a 6 week free trial. Body By Simone is doing a free 14 day free trial and Instagram live classes, Down Dog is a yoga app that is currently free during this time.

If you need some motivation in life there are some great free podcasts to listen to. I am currently really enjoying The Health Code by Kurt and Sarah’s Day, they have great conversations about career, fitness, diet and life in general. TED talks is always a go to, one of my favourites is the 3 A’s of Awesome, a beautiful talk that will make you look at life differently and most importantly positively.

It’s easy to allow yourself to binge on Netflix, eat what you want and depress yourself with the news but now is the time, it’s your time to use for you. I wish you all the best in whatever project you choose to undertake.

Stay safe and well.
