Life’s Investments

Everything we do in life is an investment. Waking up early is investing more time into our day, waking up late is investing more time into our sleep and rest, saving is investing into our bank, spending is investing in your purchase. Sometimes it’s easy to not realise when our investments are becoming bad ones.

Now as you can tell I’m not talking monetary investments here, well not completely. My focus point is where are you investing time and in the pie chart of life is my time being invested well?

The pie chart of life is a way to visualise your time investments in your day, week, month or even year. For example for a day you list your average day using factors that suits your life e.g. passion project, work, commute etc. Then assign hours of your day that you spend on them and create your pie chart of life.

I have created two below, one is an honest look at where I am now and the other is a look at where I think I want to be.

My pie chart of life key:

Myself includes going to the gym, getting outside, reading or whatever else makes you happy and feeds your mood and soul.

Procrastination for me is something that does not achieve anything e.g. watching TV aimlessly, playing games aimlessly, scrolling through the same website waiting for articles to update, online shopping.

Passion is simply something you are passionate about, that gives you joy and satisfaction in your life. It may be a passion project, a hobby or a side business. If your passion is work then pop it in here.

The rest are pretty self-explanatory.

I think its easy to see what part of my life is taking over and where I am neglecting. I need to get more motivated and spend some time on Myself and on the passion element. The reason I want to be at Passion P is because of the balance. There is room for the Passion project and for Myself, most importantly there is a balance between life and work.

Now, I know not all days are going to be like my Passion P graph, some days works busier others you may just need to procrastinate that’s life and its okay. However, the way my chart is now is not making me happy which means my investments are not profitable.

Now it’s your turn, be honest with yourself and create a chart then see if your investments are currently profitable or are you slipping into the black. Don’t forget to create a chart of where you want to be then make a simple and honest plan to get to your ideal pie chart of life.
